After hours of frantic searching in a Rutland neighbourhood by police, Citizens on Patrol, Search and Rescue and community members, three year old Shiah Stenson was located inside her home. She had been asleep the whole time.

While I applaud the search effort and am grateful they found her, I'm still dubious how they could have missed her sleeping in her own bed.
Also, Holmes says, something as simple as a blanket can sometimes obscure a scent trail, Thanks for letting anyone interested know how to obscure their scent trail.

In the end, a routine protocol re-search of the residence by an RCMP officer brought an end to what was quickly turning into a full scale search operation.

Classy way to say they were making sure that evidence of a criminal act didn't go missing.

SOP in something like this is that the parents and immediate family are *instantly* viewed as potential suspects. The cop then was, indeed, doing what they said but he wasn't looking for the little girl, he was looking for spatter, signs of recent cleaning activities, checking what was in the laundry, and checking sinks and drains for blood traces.
