Quebec's child-care scheme pays for itself, economist

Good stuff. If we want to rely less on immigration, we need to make a more kid/family friendly country.

Does this mean we can hold back some of that $8 billion in transfer payments? Perhaps pay for services in our provinces.

Yeah, sure. That's why it's always in ever growing deficit. It's "paying itself"
I hate those biased "report" that tries to pass as objective because the guy is an 'intellectual'.

What Fortin 'forgets' to take into account, is that while it's true it boosted the number of birth for some years, it's not a permanent process. It's just that that generation of women decided to have babies younger than before. They have babies at 25 instead of 30 yo. So the two 'generations' overlapped and by that effect, it boosted birth numbers. However, it doesn't mean they make MORE babies. They just had the same rate of babies before they would have without the program. That overlapping period where those two generations had babies at the same time is now over according to the recent birthrate.

He plays with the numbers, like most 'economists' report to sustain an agenda.

As an example, a report last week from another 'economist' said that Quebec was not a 'welfare state' of Canada at all and that, in fact, we were contributing MORE to Canada than what we receive. So, those reports have to be taken more as opinions than as facts.
