Gene Simmons has joined Roddy Piper, Henry Winkler and Shannen Doherty in the annals of celebrities honoured by the Office of the Mayor in Winnipeg.

    We need to stop handing these things out to celebrities. Especially this one. Was he born here? Any affiliation to us at all?

    I say we change the locks right away.

    Giving Gene Simmons the key to the city was �a big mistake for our city,� the speaker of Winnipeg�s city council said Thursday.

    One day after the 61-year-old KISS frontman and reality TV star was handed the key to the city, Coun. Grant Nordman spoke out against the move, revealing that he advised the mayor�s office against it because of Simmons� unabashed claims of having slept with thousands of women over the years.

    �Initially when the press release came out I replied back to the mayor�s office and said �Is this a joke?�� Nordman said. �I told them it�s a big mistake for our city.�

    Ottawa gave one to Terry Fox's mother though. Us? Roddy Roddy Piper, Shannen Doherty, and Gene Simmons.

    Stop doing it if we give it out for frivolous reasons.

    I've always felt the entire idea of giving a key to the city was frivolous, doesn't matter who it's given to. Apparently your mayor just happens to like those people.

    Shannen Doherty was from Glen Murray. It would have made more sense for him to give it to



    But Terry Fox was born here at least for crying out loud.
