ISLAMABAD - Al-Qaida confirmed Friday that Osama bin Laden was dead, dispelling doubts by some Muslims the groups leader had really been killed by U.S. forces, and vowed to mount more attacks on the West.

I'm reminded of a scene from Monty Python and The Holy Grail where a French Knight is taunting King Arthur and ends like the lines "Your mother was a hamster" and "I fart in you general direction".

That is about the only response that this group Al Kaida deserves.

This is business as usual. Al Qaeda is IRA-like in its single cell command, or lack of, structure. Bin Laden's assassination won't alter that. These Jihadis are more like a franchise of independent terrorist groups than a cohesive Islamic horde aka The Hun.

Their unity is based on a common hatred of the US, and the rest of decadent Rome and Israel.

Bin Laden will be replaced by another icon of the Jihad. Plenty more are waiting to fill his vacant job.

    The Yanks should remember that.

I guess the next question is then how were the IRA dealt with? Perhaps the US should learn from that. Bart has (surprisingly) stated a belief that a sit down talk might help ala the Easter talks.
