    Vancouver: $1.37
    Montreal: $1.36
    Halifax: $1.33
    Quebec City: $1.32
    Toronto: $1.32
    Hamilton: $1.31
    Kitchener-Waterloo: $1.30
    London: $1.30
    Barrie: $1.29
    Victoria: $1.29

I guess CTV doesn't want to tell it's viewers that gas in Edmonton is 1.14 per liter today in Edmonton.

121.4 here as of yesterday morning.

What happen, some genius somewhere decide to permanently shut down a couple of refineries again just so the bottom-feeders at the head office get a better bonus at the end of the year?

Just got back from a quick trip to the LC. They're all dropping the price back to 117.9. Seriously, WTF was the point of all that? :|

But hey, look at the bright side.

If you care about the little guy, pay him a decent wage and have decent social systems. That's what Norway does. They have very expensive gas, but one of the highest disposable incomes in the world. Way less poverty than Canada.

I don't get you guys, you want the market to determine wages, so if there's only jobs for $8 well fuck the guys that have to take them, who can't even afford a car. But gas goes up a few cents and you wring your hands. I guess because it actually comes out of your pocket and you figure you're a little guy at 90k a year. Cry me a river.

At the risk of appearing as a big government leftwing pinko,I really believe that it is time to remove certain parties from bidding on oil futures contracts. This current round of price hikes has absolutely nothing to do with supply and demand. There is no disruption of the oil supply in North America. In fact the Cushing oil reserve in OK. is at its highest level in its history. In a matter of weeks it will be at 100% capacity, and will no longer be able to accept any more shipments of oil. That fact is why certain rating firms are calling for shorting the oil market. If no one can physically accept delivery of oil shipments, the price HAS to come down in the futures markets. This is nothing new, we have all seen this BS before a few years ago.

I am a hardcore rightwing capitalist. I will make no apology for that fact. I am proud to invest my money in companies that that have new ideas or products that make the world a better place. These companies use my money to buy capital equipment, hire employees, or advertise thier products. If my stock grows and I make a profit, I am not going to feel guilty about it. I see it as a win win situation. The company wins. The employees win. The government agencies collecting taxes from the company and employees win. I win. My government collects capital gains taxes on my wins. If I do very well on my investments and make an obcene amount of money......why should I apologize? I took the gamble. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. Thats the nature of the marketplace.

That said I feel that there is a huge diff in investing like I do, and speculating. Investors help lots of people. Speculators help only themselves. Individual speculators who have nothing to do with the oil industry are driving up the cost for everyone. They try to buy something for a $1 and sell it for a $1.10. The person buying for a $1.10 tries to sell for a $1.20. The speculators get rich, and everyone else gets fucked! I have to call bullshit on this practise. Higher fuel cost affect everything and threaten to drag us back into recession. Why should we all get screwed so a few assholes get rich? Most States require a dealers license to attend an auto auction. You have to be involved in the industry to place a bid. I feel that it is time to have some likeminded rules in the commodities futures markets. You own an oil refinery or an oil company, than you can bid on oil futures contracts. You're Joe Schmoe daytrading on your laptop.....fuck you, you don't get to bid. We do not need these people artificialy running up prices on commodities just so they can make a quick buck. The same rules should apply to all futures contracts. General mills, Quaker, etc. they get to bid on grains contracts. Exclude the daytraders.

I know that some on the right will say that I have sold out, that I have abandonded my free market principles by advocating for controls on the futures markets. Oh well. I can live with that. Mabey I am getting soft in my old age. I play the markets every day. I DO LOVE a great day in the markets where I am making thousands of dollars! I cannot deny that. That will never change. I can say honestly that I have never taken food out of someone's mouth just so I can make a quick buck. I am not causing entire economies to collapse just to line my pockets. I do care about a greater good. Its time to drive these self serving assholes who are screwing the entire world out of the futures markets IMHO.
