Crown attorney Wendy Friesen told the Free Press the officer was hit in the eye with bloody saliva and had to undergo medical treatment which included a cocktail of anti-retroviral drugs. He suffered no actual injury and has been given a clean bill of health.

Wow.. I hope he at least banged his head pretty good on the way into the cruiser.

Conjunctivial tissue will absorb will absorb any virus and with his saliva being bloody makes it much worse. It is like a direct injection fortunatly the anti-retroviral drugs may save his life.

I hope Bear got tazered or accidentally slipped and banged his head on the sidewalk when he slipped on that bar of soap that was between him and the Police Cruiser.

Sorry for the repeated words guys (and Ladies).

I'd like to expose Mr Bear to a bit of Gamma radiation. That will certainly kill his aids virus along with ever other cell in his body.

Anybody notice the comments section for the article?

The Winnipeg Free Press is not accepting comments on this story for legal reasons.

Blah, the Winnipeg Free Press has become a joke.

Got a free Weekend subscription (since they don't do a Sunday one anymore) and am often unsure if it is the newspaper or the Ad Bag. I think there is news in it somewhere in the first 5 pages, the rest is ads and fluff these days.

Emergency Services deal with the possibility of being exposed to HIV and other infectious viruses daily.

Well that makes it all ok then, they should just take it and suck it up.

I think the point of the article and the lawsuit is to set a precedent that says they don't have to take it, that using a despise to attack a Peace Officer is the same as using a weapon, both have the potential for harm.
