The Governor General won't apologize to Saint John's black community for a 1785 decree that severely restricted where they could live or fish in the southern New Brunswick city.

Good. Give them a box of tissues though.

Hardly seems fair. Why should this be the only group without an apology and generous check so that healing can begin.

Exactly Mr.C. Generally ends up being empty words that don't help anything, or it ends up being some kind of acknowledgment of fault that ends up costing the taxpayers millions in reparations.

I wish someone from one of these groups would tell us how long a people are allowed to hang onto things. How many generations back does an injustice have to have happened before the descendants can't make a profit off of it anymore?

I don't understand it? What is the point? Are they going to say lifting parts of the charter nearly 200 years before they were born still restricts their potential for prosperity today?

If people were killed because of their skin colour, I can see the demand for an apology but not this.

1775!!! That was then; this is now. Time to move on! You can live anywhere you want today.

I'm sure Michelle Jean may of been a bit more sympathetic to their plight, though coming from someone their own colour may not be what they were after.

I'm sorry they don't even look black lol. They are mulattoes, and very light ones at that, basically "off whites". I'm not sure what the Irish/Scottish part in them thinks but they should see African immigrants and see real blacks. There's quite a few African immigrants out east now.

This is retarded. They could move to Toronto, mulattoes are the hottest property on the dating scene here, not one seems left single anymore. Guys of all colours chase after them like chickens. I for one welcome their females here. I will apologize for whatever their Irish ancestor did to their black ancestors before they decided to make some babies together, if it makes them happy and accept my dinner invitation.

Frig I get sick of groups wanting apologies and money for stuff that happened in history and in a different time period. Get real and get on with it.

Why not just apologize and move on? It's just words. Hell I'll do it if they pay my airfare.

Doubt there is any group or nationality that were not victims of some war of invasion or harrassed or what ever. Why should someone or government living to-day have to say gee we're sorry and here is some cash for you ( even though you personally were not effected. Give over!

They don't. Problem is the government issues apologies to one group, and ignores another. There's no real consistency in their policies.

True enough! They should just quit doing it.
