Some residents in a quiet Belle River, Ont., retirement community are making a lot of noise over their right to fly the Canadian flag.

The association can go fuck itself - was the immediate thought that popped into my head.

I fly the American flag and the Canadian flag all the time if I was told to remove them I too would tell them to go to hell.

What is trashy about flying the Candain Flag especially in Canada. Such talk is 1000% PC bullshit.
If I wasn't flying a Canadian flag I would put one up and the home own association could piss off.

So there are rules about weed extermination in your own yard, but not about whether you can fly a Canadian flag or not?

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying here.

We (in this town, and I have heard EB complain about it too, and if I am correct, he is in Ontario) are told to remove (exterminate) dandelions. EB has been complaining that he can't use the stuff he wants to use.
To me, that is a ridiculous by-law.

You would think that the by-law nazi would have made a law as to when or even IF you can fly a flag from your own home, so shit like this doesn't happen. No by-law? Let it fly...

From the article, it seems there is something in the association by-laws that say you can't alter the exterior and some are arguing that a flag pole is altering the exterior.

There is no federal law about when you can and can't fly a flag?

No technically when your sign up with a community or club. Those clubs don't have to obey some laws. Like the Boy Scouts can kick out gays because it's a club.

The only way I could see it being an issue is if the flag was some how blocking a neighbor's window or something like that. Beside that they should have the right to fly it.
