I hope the judge made Oregon pay court costs for their action, and for the woman's lawyer.

"We wanted for them to send a message 'don't mess with Canadians,'

Or else we'll send you a worded letter.

Visiting his father, the boy was seized by child welfare officials in Oregon in 2008 after he was spotted riding a bicycle without a helmet and subsequently determined to be living in the state without a legal guardian present.

No offense, but the same thing would've happened were the roles reversed and the kid was in, say, Vancouver visiting his non-custodial father from the US. Only I'd hope the Canadian welfare folks would have better sense than to hold the kid hostage for what was nothing less than an act of extortion.

Well, I dunno about BC but the FCS/CAS in Ontario is nothing short of a fucking pathetic joke.
Example, while this isn't an international incident, it just shows me the systemic mental retardation that seems to flow amoung the workers within this organization.
Just before Thanksgiving, our best friend's daughter died. Our friend is now fighting for custody of her grandchild. FCS/CAS wants her to do random drug and alcohol tests and can only see her grandchild 1 hr a week under . The bitch in charge even completely defied a court order that said our friend was entitled to TWO hours, not one, but obviously the immigrant bitchface knows better than our court system! Oh but guess who gets HIS full two hour visits?
Our friend doesn't do drugs and drinks socially, but ANY alcohol consumption will negate her chance for custody. Meanwhile, the father who is actually just the step father, has a criminal record that's rather lengthy including at least one conviction for trafficking. He, doesn't have to do anything to prove his worth to FCS/CAS to look after a 2 yr old.
I told our friend to fire her lawyer and I set her up with mine. At least my lawyer will see that the bitch in charge of the case is THOROUGHLY investigated.
