According to the immigration site, you cannot claim refugee when you are denied that in another country.

I think this really needs to stop right now, its set a very dangerous precedent and now in the midst becommibg a well established of a human smuggling route. If this doesn't stop very soon it might be having the sama situation like Australia had with the Vietnames boat people.

Bren I think the law is you cannot claim refugee status if you have stopped over at a friendly nation while on route. Fo eg:- If you stopped over at Gatwick and went on to Toronto and then claimed refugee status. Although I'm not 100% sure.

This ship also first sailed into Australian waters. The Aussies directed them to an island where refugees are held. The Tamils didn't like that and decided to go to Canada instead.
