'Sadosexual' killer Williams gets 2 life sentences

It's 25 years. Sentences do not add up like in the States. If all sentences were put in a row it would be 152 years of prison. 2 times 25 years for the murders. 2 times 10 years for the rapes. 82 times 1 years for the burglary.

He is 47 yo so that means he would be available for a parole at 72 yo. But like the judge said, it's not sure AT ALL that he will be released in 25 years. It's a bit like Paul Bernardo. They will never be outside a prison alive. No judge will allow that. It's too horrible.

Anyway I don't think he will survive long in prison. He already tried to kill himself and wrote with mustard on his cell wall that he was not able to control it (the fetish). It's in his DNA.

Like a psychiatrist said on the radio here, the only way to help him is the physical castration and maybe a lobotomy. Else, he will become crazy without the fetishes. Well, I mean, totally crazy. He is already.

A life sentence is a life sentence, not 25 years. Convicted murderers don't just walk away from Kingston after 25 years. Williams will be first eligible for parole in 25 years, but clearly he will never be granted parole. Bernardo is different. Bernardo is a Dangerous Offender, which is a designation imposed after conviction, before sentencing. An application is made by the Crown and a separate hearing is held. That designation allows the judge to impose an indeterminite sentence and release is determined by the National Parole Board rather than the Criminal Code. Some 400 Canadians have been designated as such and only a handful of them have ever been parolled (including Marlene Moore, who is a sad and interesting legal story as well). But neither Bernardo nor Williams will ever walk free again. I'd take a wager in any amount on that.
