Thousands of explicit photos that Col. Russell Williams took while wearing women's and girls' lingerie show how his sexual obsession escalated from lesser crimes to sexual assault and murder, a Belleville, Ont., court heard Monday.

At the very least, the victims have been spared a bit more torture.

Why were they showing all the graphic photos today in court? He pleaded guilty to all the charges. So what would be the purpose?

    Possibly for the upcoming sentancing?

I still can't understand why they would show all of the images and go into such graphic detail in court, with the victim's families there. Why put them through all of that? If he pleaded innocent to any of the charges, I could understand it. But after reading off all the charges, and with him pleading guilty to every single one, that should be it until a date is scheduled for sentencing. I just do not understand the Canadian justice system. And then you add the victim impact statements. I mean we should already know how the families feel. Who needs victim impact statements? Each of the 80 or so charges that he pleaded guilty to, including the two murders carry set penalties, so why put anyone through more than what is necessary, especially the victim's families?
