    An outspoken communist in a democracy, in the 50's, and he's surprised by this? Try being an outspoken capitalist in Russia in the 50's, the least treatment would be "re-education" in a gulag for twenty years. The worst would be, you would disappear, with a souvenir piece a lead in the back of your head. Of course the good ol' CBC doesn't report the other half of the story.

    I'm sure a much smaller number of Canadian Japanese died farming garlic in the prairies then Russian dissenters died in Siberia so we're just awesome?

    Don't judge Canada in comparison to Russia.

    Do judge Canada by Canadian Standards.
