I find this hilarious since Harper and several people on CKA are on record as hating Chretien for pitching close ties with China.

No matter, there are plenty of other reasons to hate the little thug from Shawinigan.

He has to do something to help Alberta.. selling oil to China would be a boon for the home province.

That's probably the thing right there. Who gives a crap about Chinese Nobel laureates rotting in prison when you've got constituents in your home riding that are out of a job?

(That's a criticism, by the way.)

Difference between Harper and Chretien is that Harper doesn't turn a blind eye to China's human rights abuse while trying to get better relations.

Chrtien didn't turn a blind eye to human rights either, he addressed the issue every chance he had.

He had a bit fit every time the Harper government criticized China over human rights saying that we were ruining our relationship with China

Could you post some of his bit fits? When exactly did he say dick about Harper and his Chinese policies. I remember when the Chinese wouldn't even entertain Harper and he had to send one of his cronies to chat up the Chinese

Chrtien"s philosophy with the Chinese was walk softly and don't carry a big stick.

We established very good relations, relatively speaking, with China. And suddenly, you break the bridge

When did china refuse to entertain Harper?

Early in the game Harper was not keen on the Chinese partnership that was started by Chrtien and Martin. The Chinese were concerned about the relationship between Canada and China when Harper took over. I agree Harper pounded the human rights issues when dealing with them. And in the beginning he was cool to them. It was only after pressure by business people and the opposition that he came around and of course now that the States economy is in the toilet he feels a need to reach out.
Canada and China are the two countries with economies that survived the recession.
Followed by India. Canada will be looking to both India and China to build trade.

Harper's once again proven to be a clown on the world scene. Way to go dork!
