A North Preston man has been sentenced as an adult to 14 years in prison for shooting Michael Patriquen Jr. and leaving him paralyzed. Mykel Smith, 19, was sentenced Tuesday for attempted murder.
As I said in the thread about the aboriginal kid that dragged somebody to death in his car - how is it fair the guy in this story, who only paralyzed somebody gets 14 years, but the dragger gets only 7. The diff between the two cases seems to be 1 year of age and the fact the dragger is aboriginal.
Thats true as well, but I dunno the details of the cases like what was his criminal history. maybe he had a violent past with prior arrests, drugs etc etc and the other was a first time offender.
I dunno I'm just guessing. But I think a person past history is also taken into account when sentencing.

Who knows. But hopefully this can start a precedent where the sentence is higher for minors.
Not saying any of the two crimes are any worse, both deserve more than what they got, but I'm trying to look at it a from legal point of view.
I think there is another difference also that this was a "contract style shooting" probably premeditated with an intent to kill.

Good point. Except the contract killer didn't actually kill anybody - and the law usually gets a lot harsher when you do.
