Perhaps they should of responded with lead throwing devices.

You can't seriously be surprised Regina?

That time, the catalyst was that a teacher had fallen in love with the OPP secretary, who had recently broken up with the son of one of the councillors. Council subsequently passed a resolution firing the teacher, which it demanded the OPP enforce. On legal advice, the OPP refused, and the council then passed a resolution ordering the OPP to leave.

These people must be retarded. They're letting personal issues be resolved in a community council meeting?

This time, the revolution was sparked by the arrest in late June of a deaf and mute man who was, the OPP allege, trying to pull an officers firearm from the holster.

The OPP should just leave them to their fate. 2500 of the 2700 residents may not have been involved in the mob, but then again complacency does not absolve you.

Mr. Walsh said the association was promised by departing OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino that those who participated would be held accountable. One would like to think somebody would be arrested, he said.

You may want to speak to speak to the people of Caledonia about the province's willingness to arrest native lawbreakers.

The OPP will do nothing as the Liberal PM in Ontario will do nothing and won't back them up.

The Province will blame the Feds and the Feds will blame the province and the natives will get away with breaking the law as usual while we subsidise their life.

I've heard all kinds of horror stories about these NW Ontario remote reserves. The people who are there to protect, teach and heal them lock themselves up at night and go out to clean the mess during daylight hours. Reminiscent of the movie "The Omega Man"

This is BS. Enough of letting these so called first nations to do whatever they want because they were too stupid and drunk to know they were getting swindled out of their land 500 years ago. Follow the law of the land just like everyone else has to!

They have similar situations in most fly in reserves. Some places have gone as far as having steel shutters placed on the residences of teachers and police. We had a 5 ft 4X4 as a door brace on our front door when we were up north....it came in handy at times...especially when it was drunk out.

Christie Blatchford seems to be the only journo these days willing to do any proper investigative journalism into these 'sacred cow' issues. The rest of her ilk would rather just slag the cops off or diss the military. Notice how this isn't even a front page story.

It also happened two months ago and no mainstream media org went any where near it. We should just be content with stories about G20 cops over reacting and how a DnD hacker changed a wiki page on the F35.

Easy solution - cut the reserve off its dole. Let's see how the little fiefdom does when the money train is shut down.

Kudos, by the way, to the conduct of the officers involved. Bravo...at the very least they modeled civilized, professional behavior and it's too bad these thugs and terrorists can't emulate it.

Looks like the good area for the Simpsons bubble to be placed.

Or just pull out the cops, nurses and teachers.

The Natives will be fine, they will find their own way.. like they want.

Adn the next time someone winds up dead on the reserve, it'll be the gummint's fault for not providing adequate policing.

No fences?! They're afraid of sending the wrong message?! CUT OFF THE FUNDING!!! PUT A SECURE STATION ON SITE!!! ARREST THE WRONGDOERS !!! THAT will send a clear message: Respect the law and those who uphold it.

I don't understand. I thought reserves were federal lands - what is the OPP doing there in the first place? The OPP should just wash it's hands of the situation, something they have lots of practice with in Caledonia.
