    Smart kid, misplaced talents.

I think he's going to have a hard time hot wiring a plane from the jail courtyard.

Smart? Not one I would have labled as smart. I hope he sees a lot of the world from his prison window.

I agree with Unicornlord, he's certainly not smart common sense-wise and as far as IQ who knows? Reading in the Ottawa Citizen today that there seems to be a lot of cult built up around him and with such a thing comes big stories and claims that inflate a person with this type of status way beyond what they really are.

His mother claims he had an IQ just short of Einstein but did she really say this? Is there proof? She'd not be the first mom to be proud of her criminal son. I knew one who kept newspaper clippings of her sons arrests and put them in a scrap book to show off to company she was so proud, she thought he was the smartest boy in the world. So is he smart because he learned to fly a plane without formal in instruction? Well hes not ht first, is he smart because he could break into houses and steal food? Well then there are a lot of Einsteins out there. Is he smart because he only got caught twice now? There are many who've done more complicated crimes, more often than him, who have never been caught, plus Break and enter is low on the 'ever solved' crimes list. So no, I don't see any evidence he is smarter than anyone else.

The article also said some praise his outdoors skills. Well ok, I'll give him that, but there are many homeless people and bums who live outside and have survived longer than him, why no praise for your local homeless guy? You don't even toss him a TimBit likely yet people start a FB page for this kid! So I'll give him that, he's a bum.

As is often the case for groupies who like to hold up undesirables as heroes this goof's followers have come up with a story that he often has given money to Vets to care for animals. No proof of this and really what it is is the groupies way of making him less of a criminal and more like Robin Hood as their sub conscious really can't deal with admiring some two bit punk criminal.

Then there is the daring exploits like running his stolen Mercedes into a fuel tanks to cause a blast and distract police who were chasing him so he could escape. Again, I've done some looking and found no real media reports of this happening from first hand sources. Now the cult groupies have a Daring, intelligent Robin Hood to worship.

Saw him on the news today being led around shackled form a plane. He had his head down, shoulders slumped forward doing his best to avoid attention. This shows shame and regret and certainly not someone who is proud and cocky and righteous.

No, sorry to the groupies but your Bare Foot Bandit anti-hero is simply just a two bit punk like the one who ripped off your power saw from your dad's garage last summer, or stole your bike when you were younger. You made him the rest and this is sad, because this is what kids these days (at least 63,000 of them on his FB Fan page) feel is worthy of a role model to praise and look up to.

    Sad for our society really!

"Smart kid but his talents are misplaced"

I guess I needed to expound on that I see now that the comma really threw people off. lol.

Don't worry I don't have a run colby run t-shirt, no fan by any stretch.

If you can teach yourself how to fly, I'd call you a smart person too

I'll put it on my list of things to do before I die  But the list is a bit long so might have to carry it over into the afterlife

America loves its bad boys. The anti-authoritarian figure is a primary myth in the US. You're into it too with your "gotta keep guns to stop the govt" ideology. Maybe you just don't like him 'cause he didn't use guns.

Big diff between IQ and EQ - this kids obviously clever, but emotionally damaged. I sure how prison doesn't harden him into a worse criminal, and that he can find somebody to mentor him on a better way. I'm not holding my breath.
