The Medical Society of P.E.I. and the Canadian Cancer Society are still waiting for the province to move on legislation for tanning beds, and they say guidelines aren't enough.

Tanning beds ARE should be regulated as the tobacco industry is. UV radiation IS poison. It peals paint, burns the retina in your eyes and increases your melanmoma risk. Tanning bed laws are essential.

Absolutely agreed. I have no idea how they've gone this long without regulations in place.

So... where going to subsidize and tax tanning beds till the cost to the consumer bears no relevance to the cost of operation?

There is no such thing as a 'healthy' tan, any more than there is a healthy callous. Both are the result of the body's reactions to skin damage, one from friction, the other from radiation.

I really don't see why we have some crazy notion of allowing people to do something we all know is incredibly unhealthy and stupid without making them understand that they must be ready to pay the consequences out of their own pocket.

Honestly if your stupid enough to smoke or use things like tanning beds on a regular basis then maybe it's time you were asked to pay your bills ahead of time for the costs you are going to place on the health care system.

I just hope Ontario wins their lawsuit against big tobacco for the provinces health care costs.
