China is playing for keeps when it comes to vast natural resources that lie under the Arctic Ocean. A top Chinese admiral said earlier this year that, by his reasoning, because one-fifth of the worlds population lives in China, China was entitled to one-fifth of the resources that lie in the Arctics international waters.

"The Arctic belongs to all the people around the world as no nation has sovereignty over it," Rear Admiral Yin Zhuo said in the spring. "China must play an indispensable role in Arctic exploration as we have one-fifth of the world's population.

China is going to be mighty disappointed.

They have no business in the Arctic.

China's argument is similar to the French argument that they have a stake in the Arctic mineral right. Really? Can We can go into China and mine their resources and they won't mind? Not Really.

The are so full of it. They must be smoking the same shit Kim Jong Ill has been smoking.

China (as was said earlier) can screw its ancient ancestors.

It may come to Peace Through Superior Firepower.

So geography should dictate who has ownership of the arctic? Actualy, I feel it more fair that China does get 1/5 of the arctic because of their size. Stop being territorial and good things will come.

Let the Chinese argue to the Russians that 1/5 of what they own should Really go to China. Lets see how far they get.

I wonder what is Cyrillic for Fuck off.

Arguing that China should get 1/5th of the Arctic based on population alone? So I guess India should get another 1/5th right?

Do you realize that if you follow this to its logical conclusion, Canada with a population of only 34 million or so will end up with nothing?

    Yep, fair enough to me.

I have no desire to fight for some elite interests, so let it go to more under-privledged nations with a greater need for it.

Let larger countries pillage our resources because they're bigger and so called "under privlidged"?

Words cannot express how happy I am that you (or someone holding the same opinion) are not running the show.

If that were the case, we'd have no country left.

Our resources? It was nomans land until the oil question came up.

I'm not trying to give out Canada to the point of no sovereignty, but if you do follow my reasoning, for the greater good for the "world", why should 32 million calim ownership of 30% of the wealth?

National-self interest is a primitive, tribal idea; somthing that mankind would be better off moving past.

Canada has claimed its chunk of the Arctic since the 1920's.

Our territory is not "no man's land".

Because its territory we claim to be ours? If China wants it, they should expect to pay top dollar or fight for it.

That's not the world we live in.
