I wouldn't be surprised if the Brits leave when Canada does.

Don't see Cameron as cut and run.

However, 2013, not much longer than that.

Afghanistan is and always has been a meat grinder for any nation that invades and occupies it. Pragmatically speaking, the only way it will ever be pacified is for it to be rendered inhospitable. Poison the wells and salt the fields and then leave. That's the best anyone can really do there.

I'm guessing after the West leaves, the Chinese will come and pick up that $3 billion

in mineral wealth sitting in Afghanistan.

Maybe they will be more successful than we were, although its not really
a great idea to just give it to them.

I agree with Martin. I was watching the Beeb World Service and they had a documentary on China in Africa. Worrying stuff.

And a special thanks to two of the resident board chickenhawks (not Brock BTW) for confirming the real reasons that we're there: a) unending vengeance, and b) make money. Nice. Although it'll be a refreshing change not to have to hear about any 'building democracy' or 'helping the locals' nonsense propaganda from you crypto-colonial bullshit artists ever again. Yesterday or a million years ago, you just confirmed we're still no different than the greedy murderous monkeys that came down out of the fucking trees.

    **** you, too.

    Fixed.

I dont think the Chinese or the Afghanis know what they are getting into, I could be wrong regarding the Chinese though.

I think Winston sussed out the Afghans in 1897 while he was a war correspondent. I've posted this before but it's worth a second look.

"Except at the times of sowing and of harvest, a continual state of feud and strife prevails throughout the land. Tribe wars with tribe. The people of one valley fight with those of the next. To the quarrels of communities are added the combats of individuals. Khan assails khan, each supported by his retainers. Every tribesman has a blood feud with his neighbor. Every man's hand is against the other, and all against the stranger."
