OTTAWA - Poor Don Cherry. The Canadian hockey and cultural icon still hasnt been asked to join the elite club known as the Order of Canada.

Perhaps Cherry's criticism of Qubec and his frequent racist remarks are what is blocking him. Although I admire the man, people who aspire to obtain such recognition have to be politically correct in public.

As for Mike Duffy.... a smoked meat sandwich award would be more appropriate!

Winnipeg corned beef and pastrami is better than Montreal smoked meat any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

So Quebec is above criticism now. As far as racist remarks, never heard him utter any. Or is it now racist to say Quebec players and Europeans have a higher percentage of visor wearing than English Canadians or American players.

Oh really you have never heard Don make racist remarks? well he has and he does.
Qubec is open for criticism like any other province.. just an observation on my part. Don has taken shots a Qubecers and not just hockey players. We all take shots at one another and I am not shy on racist comments, however I am not and never will be in the running for the Order of Canada :).... but I will not comprimise my point of view.. no matter how un politically correct it may be. I like and respect Don and I give him cudos for his candor. Persoanlly I think he is a great Canadian and probably deserves it.

While I also like Don, having met and talked with the man on a couple of occasions, I find him a proud Canadian. Maybe a little too proud for those who make these selections, thus I don't ever see him being made a member of the Order of Canada. But seeing some of the people who have been made a member maybe not being considered is actually a complement.

Order of Canada recipients are generally artsy fartsy, liberal lefty pinkos, tree hugging and butterfly kissing, rump roasting fags. But then that's my opinion. 8)

I think Don Cherry is universally respected throughout the Canadian Forces for his unrelenting support of the men and women who serve Canada proudly. Perhaps the Meritorious Service Cross would be a more appropriate award...and it would be more readily recognizable to the military folks.

And so have you. I don't need to find that obscure post about you wanting to deport all muslims because it can easily be found since you say it every chance you get.

But I remember the incident your talking about, strangely enough it made it to the house of commons even the Official Language office got involved.

His offense...."Those french guys" in the context of visors I believe.

You don't think some Quebec media personalities in the past haven't muttered "Les anglais" in the past in one context or another.

    Hyper sensitive a bit ?

Your opinion is grossly ignorant. Maybe you should have looked at the list of companions of the Order of Canada before typing that? Or maybe you did and just weren't familiar with any of the names you were reading.

I read the list and I stand on that opinion. It's not a club I would opt to belong to.

I guess I am alone in feeling that, being a loud broadcaster for hockey and showing the same amount of patriotism as many Canadians alone, he has not yet shown the merit to be in the Order of Canada aside from a remarkable and alarming amount of popularity which continues to astound and confuse me?

Then again, lately most government's don't seem to get the word "merit" when tying it into awards anymore so I guess I shall have to suffer if he ever does get into the Order.
