The city is considering spending $36,000 to create a statue that would memorialize those who have lost their lives to homelessness. The idea has already caused quite a stir with some critics saying the money could be put to better use.

    whatthef...
sounds like a bad SNL sketch
"This 36,000 dollar statue commemorates all the money that didn't go to aiding the homeless"

how about spending the $36 000 on soup kitchens. A statue does fuck all to alleviate hunger or not having shelter.

    Talk about insensitive. 8O

Try doing something a little more positive than honouring people who died because of apathy from all levels of Government, Edmontons included.

I'm sure a statue would be of great solace to a person who's hungry cold and helpless.

I'm sure they'll put some nice park benches all around it.

It'll be a nice place for the homeless to sleep, with the benches and all. Provides a bit of shade on a hot summer day too! Yep, AWESOME plan!

I agree why build a statue when you can feed people with the same money?

Statue won't beg and smell once completed

I can see why they want to raise awareness but a single statue is not going to do anything much considering you can manage much more with that money by funding charity drives or getting local airtime.

I agree I want a statue to that guy who died after drinking a great big bottle of aftershave that I stepped over on the street minutes before he died.

To show how much he mattered to me.

If I was homeless I think I would be insulted by having good money spent on a statue and not on food or shelter.
