Fox News North? QMI bids for all-news network

Quebecor owns Francophone networks such as TVA and LCN, amongst other media outlets. They are definitely the most ''leftist'' thing on TV and newspapers, so this is a bit astonishing to see them take a go at a more right wing media.

Oh that's right though, now realize that they own Sun Media in the ROC.

Perhaps they should have a Federalist ''right wing'' TV station for the province of Quebec instead.

FINALLY! Harper and his Harperite Party of Canada will see a news agency capable of getting their point of view out to the Canadian people in an "unbiased" fashion.

As opposed to the CBC, which does it in an unbiased fashion?

I largely don't listen to the media, and it's not because I'm too left or right -- I'm an oddity supporting the parties on the opposite ends of the scale, and find that each staton already has a bit of a slant in their stories at times. I doubt another media station will grab my attention anymore than the current one's do, left leaning, right leaning, or crazy leaning.

My point Khar is that no other Political Party in Canada does as much whining, moaning and belly aching about their "tarnished image" and "media bias" as the Harperites. If it was truly a problem all Political Parties would have a problem. The Canadian media is the Canadian media LIVE WITH IT!. Just because one Party can not propagandize and call it news does not make it a bias.

In contrast with FOX News in the US, (the supposed model for the Canadian Network) the CBC is a paragon of balanced fair reporting. FOX news is not news but entertainment(and sometimes barely that). At least the news is the news on CBC and other Canadian news sources and not packaged commentary.

That would be a good thing IMO.

Although they would probably be, to some extent, a more moderate ''right wing'' style of journalism. That's a neat concept, let it broadcast and let the people decide.

After we had the activist from the boats in Israel and a special report from a lady who had a lot of questionable opinions about religion and the conservatives take center stage on CBC, it is easy to see why some people see it as bias, especially since the book's author was quite questionable and the reuters image of what was "unarmed victims" according to the activist on CBC turned out to be a little bit of Reuters cropping and blind-eye journalism, although of course, this could always be a mistake on the part of CBC.

Also, if a media broadcaster truly is biased, than I also doubt that the political parties being more or less supported would be angry about it. The inception of any right leaning media broadcaster, even if it was mild and not something similar to Fox, would send the Liberal, Green and NDP howling as much as the CBC sends the Conservatives howling, I bet -- something that the CBC did intend to investigate (but we've heard no news on that since) as a news article commented on in here mentioned.

Validating or rationalizing potential bias on one side because "it's not as bad as the other side" makes little sense in my books, personally -- it still means they are biased, and that simply cannot be ignored, especially since one runs on public funds. *shrugs* I would prefer that bias be recognized rather than swept under the carpet to any degree, as I'd hope you'd agree in regards to any potential right leaning media broadcaster, should this go beyond the bidding stage and become a new station.

I was going to gripe about channel #501 with nothing on, but they'll probably bundle it with CBC newsworld in one and CTV in another so they can hose you another $5.95 a month. And another $5.95 if you want it in HD.

As much as I lean conservative the Ezra Levant Channel would be a bit much lol
