Hubble spots a planet-eating star

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured evidence of a Sun-like star "eating" a nearby planet. Astronomers knew that stars were capable of swallowing planets in orbit around them, but this is the first time the event has been "seen" so clearly.

Professor Stephen Hawking says earth will suffer the same fate in 2 billion years, by our own sun.

Makes you appreciate the trees, flowers and all the vibrant colours of the earth even more when you venture out... (because it won't last forever)

That's not quite true. The Sun is expected to turn into a Red Giant, in doing so it will expand until it becomes the same size as Mar's orbit is now. In doing so earth is just going to be swallowed whole, not cannibalized, along with the rest of the inner planets.

o.k. Professor Hyack & physicist, there a plenty of different scenarios to this on YouTube..

My point is, the Earth will be destroyed by the sun in a few billion years, so when you take a look at nature around you... maybe, just maybe you can appreciate it a little more.

Neat, the universe never fails to fascinate me.
