Heritage Minister James Moore has made his allegiance clear in one of the country's most politically divisive debates -- he's declared the Vancouver Canucks are Canada's team during this year's NHL playoffs, not the Montreal Canadiens.

now watch all the quebecois squirm. They will start making discriminatory claims, blah blah blah.

While I personally support the Habs, I fully understand the gov. position, that being said. Since there are TWO Canadians teams in the 2nd round, maybe he should have just shut up about it.

I said in another thread this is a stupid question.

Seems someone seemed fit to give an equally stupid answer.

Robair, you are right.. shutting up would have been better.

The Heritage Minister is, like every other Canadian, entitled to have a favorite.

At least it is one north of the 49th parallel. If he was rooting for the Sharks then I might be concerned.

Good thing this wasn't said during a federal election. 48 Bloc seats and counting. Only 27 more seats to go and its a bloc sweep !!!

This is good. Get the hype going, because when it's Montreal Vancouver in the final, it's going to be a war.

Ok, I'll go on record as stating I hate the Canadiennes. Not in any dark way where I'd like something bad to happen. Everybody has a team they just can't stand.
Having said that, the Heritage Minister SHOULD have kept his yap shut, or at least made it clear HE was cheering for Vancouver to go all the way.
He's also discounting the fact that there are a LOT of Candiennes fans in Canada.
I'd even hazard to say there are probably more Montreal fans than Vancouver fans.

A Montreal/Vancouver final WOULD be freakin' sweet though

Screw the Canucks. Habs all the way, baby!

Who the hell is this guy to declare Canada's team anyway? You can cheer for whomever you want... on your private Twitter account, among friends, family... but not in your functions as Federal Heritage Minister.

The Heritage minister should have shut up until there was only one Canadian team left. Either way, I hope for a Habs/Canucks final. :D

And since the Habs are my second-favourite team, I'll be cheering for them all the way baby! :P
