RCMP gun has troubled history in Ottawa

I highly doubt this has anything to do with the MP5, it is a reliable firearm if you know how to use it.

My guess is our national police force needs to spend some more time at the range!

when I was in the military, I had the opportunity to work with MP5's and other semi-and fully auto firearms. I didn't come accross one that would instantaneously start shooting without someones fat finger on the trigger....

Judging by the last few years, and a constant stream of RCMP missteps...... lets just hope that these people don't start shooting each another.........

Theses days with the new terrorism threat superior fire power is required in a fire fight where you have to put your enemy down quickly to save lives. I;m sure with proper training the MP5 will work out out fine and hopefully they wont have to be used,

A single-shot only version is a waste of resources, in my mind, that's little better than a 9mm pistol with a stock for firing from the shoulder. How about we issue the REAL MP5 and exercise a lot more quality control in our recruitment and police skills training instead of focusing on riding horses to music. It's pretty embarassing that "our nation's finest" can't be trusted with proven, fully automatic weapons.

Single-shot 9mm automatic rifle? Might as well duct-tape a stock to their pistol. They need fully-automatic weapons in a fire-fight. Period.

Give them P90's or MP7's at least. MP5 just makes me want to play CS.

Exactly! Over 30 years of owning/using weapons and never had a weapon just fire on it's own. Every incident the RCMP had with this weapon discharging was found to be incompetent users.

What? Do you mean that scene in True Lies where Jamie Lee Curtis drops the uzi and it falls down the stairs firing all the way on full auto taking out about 30 bad guys wasn't really possible?

this comes from a rampant anti-gun culture and people irrational fear of firearms combined with poor and inadequate training. Once the RCMP leave depot, unless you are part of SWAT / SOF your firearms training falls to your qualifying only. Which means they become pretty dam useless with a gun.

Still its hard to believe that a gun was designed so that once the trigger is pressed the gun could be dropped and still continue firing. How could you control such a weapon?
