Members of Parliament who travelled abroad on the dime of lobby groups last year are defending their trips as learning opportunities, but critics say the trips are unethical and MPs should not agree to them.

    They really can't win. Travel on the taxpayers dime and they are called wasteful. Travel on someone elses dime and they are taking bribes.

    But as Liberal MP Bob Rae points out, sponsored travel is often the only way MPs can gain international experience.


    Yeah, those $100K+ salaries and tax free spending allowances, free meals, free transporation etc, just don't go as far as they used to eh?

    Rookie Conservative MP Shelly Glover says her trip to Israel gave her a better grasp of the issues in the Middle East. Glover took two lobby-sponsored trips in 2009, one to Israel and the other to Taiwan. She brought her husband with her on both trips.


    Apparently she's never heard of a book...

    Didn't the Conservatives enact limits on corporate donations to political parties to try to end this sort of corruption?
