ADAMZAI, Afghanistan - Two Canadian combat engineers recently trudged through the desert to a road southwest of Kandahar, where Afghan soldiers had detained a suspicious white van that had already tried to avoid another checkpoint in the area.

    They also have an incredible ability to sense danger. We watch them and if they start getting jumpy we know something is up. They might not have a North American sense of Tactical paranoia but they're switched on when it counts. I trust them more than Americans.
