VATICAN CITY The Vatican is launching a legal defence that the church hopes will shield the pope from a lawsuit in Kentucky seeking to have him deposed over claims that the Holy See was negligent in failing to report abuse claims.

They are sure going through a lot of effort to legally protect him. How much legal protection does he need if he didn't know anything?

Wasn't he the one under his John Paul II who was in charge of ferreting out all unacceptable Catholic behavior world wide?

Didn't child abuse rank up there were with such heinous evils as family planning?

Hmmmm priest are given their title by the vatican. Priests can have thier title removed by the vatican. Priests are told where to go and preach by the vatican or church hierarchy. They sure sound like employees to me.
Don't know how it works in the US, but in Canada, that is a slam dunk for being an employee.

It works the same way in the States, it appears that the Vatican
will open up, but only so far after that Justice departments will
    be stonewalled.

This is the dude who the Pope hired to come down hard on anybody who didn't toe the Catholic line. He was the Pope's "enforcer". He has all the authority he needed to deal with these problems, but the number one effort seems to be to pressure Catholics who happened to be government officials in line with the churches position on family planning.

Maybe just maybe it's time for a new pope. One who wasn't a Hitler youth Anti Aircraft Gunner and when getting some authority went out of his way to protect pedophile priests.

This guy has a ton of baggage, none of it good and the College of Cardinals should have thought long and hard before they decided to make this guy pope. There were other qualified candidates who could have filled the position without compromising the church's sanctity.

So it would appear that once again the worst choice for candidate gets the job because of connections.

And you're surprised? The Vatican and the nazis have a history together.

No I'm not suprised. It just seems an odd choice to make pope, when they've spend the last 60 years trying to avoid the connection.

But if the truth be know I'd prefer an EX Hitler youth AA gunner as pope to one who went out of his way to protect pedophiles.

Given the war the Roman Catholic church has behaved it shouldn't be a surprise why there are fewer and fewer Catholics. I remembered, when I was in Catholic School, the moral authority of the church.

I Keep wondering if it dissipated over the years or if it was always the ways it is now only better hidden.

As you know, most Quebecers "de souche" are catholics and I am.

Frankly, I don't know much about protestantism. Is it only that you don't recognize the Church ?

One thing I know is that I do not consider the Pope to be "infallible". His chosen by appointed cardinals. How could he be infallible ? A divine thought told the cardinals to choose THAT man ?

John Paul II was a great Pope and it was a very hard task to replace him but personnaly, I don't think they could have taken someone "as bad" as Joseph Ratzinger. Just look at him... he's frightening.
