Low-powered machines being overtaken by ultra-portable laptops, tablets

The popularity of netbooks helped computer makers shore up their sales through the recession, but analysts suggest the market is changing again and the booming sales of these super-portable computers will be short-lived.

I never understood the rationale behind netbooks. I'd rather spend a few extra bucks and buy a fully capable laptop if I want portability.

XD Can you put a laptop in your purse, your coat pocket, your glove box? You don't the optical drive or rip videos 99% of the time.
They're a functional platform, not there for wants and wishes. A hell of a lot more usable than iPads, iPhones or PDAs

See, and I only use my laptop for reading ebooks and occasionally surfing. I'd prefer an output oriented device like a pad or Kindle, because I don't use the keyboard.

You can fit a netbook in your coat pocket? You must wear something from Mr. Big & Tall, because I sure as hell can't fit any netbook I've seen in any pocket. And I actually do use the optical drive quite often, when I play games/watch movies on my laptop. I don't have a problem with netbooks, but they just don't fit my needs.

I'd rather carry a laptop in my briefcase so that I can do whatever I want, whenever I want. It might be bulkier, but it is more functional.

The iPad might change my POV, but right now, I don't care to use anything other than a desktop when I have a choice. Even 'mobile internet' on iPhones and BBs is, IMHO, a waste of time and money.
