Every tree that's cut down by the forest industry in British Columbia will soon have to be replaced by a new seedling as part of the provincial government's plans to fight climate change.

Funny, I was under the impression that the forestry companies already did this so they can cut down second growth trees on the same plot of land 120-150 years from the initial cut. Makes good buisness sense to me to ensue you will always have a future supply.

You're wrong. In as little as 30 years sometimes.

Replanting in our area was seriously affected in the last few years by mills going under. Then they can't replant.
They get to sit there until they sell the Timber License to s big supermill, and haul the timber out of town.
The town's people lose their jobs.
The closed mill owners get rewarded for failure and fill their pockets with money.
The province gets fucked over for replanting.
    Everyone's happy, aren't they?
