Roberto Luongo was offered a pretty sweet deal. The netminder has signed on for 12 more years with the club for a whopping $64 million. This means that he will be with the team until the 2021-22 season. I swear that doesnt even sound right!

As obscene as this may be, his contract is being paid by 'private investors', not our tax dollars.

And the drinking. Remember, it's curling Yogi.

I guess I won't mention the cash bonus that goes a long with winning a gold medal.

    Entertainers naturally receive large salaries.

Christiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid is paid close to 200,000 British pounds per .

I see your point, Yogi. I agree there is a difference.

Anyway, I take it it is a slow news day, when a doping test makes the headlines

Yah. I know all about some of the prizes and 'bonuses'. I've 'thrown a few rocks' myself, and walked away with more thanI paid to play the

And I'll bet you're the first one in line slagging the Canadian athletes in the 2010 Olympics for their lack of medals.

  You SOOOOO wrong! I couldn't care less about the olympics or any other 'armchair activity'. I care even less about who wins, who loses, who gets awarded 'gold, silver, bronze plated pieces of metal'. If I see any of it, that will be because I happen to be flipping through the channels at that 'moment'!
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy taking part in sports. Sandlot baseball, game of pick-up' Few hoops, horse shoes, bush league curling, gokarting, fishing. But to have to sit and watch any organized sports' . Let's not forget they are all just games!

Small price to pay for a little national pride. I wouldn't waste my time for at least twice that.

How about, Canada working to define our National Pride based upon, the LOWEST homeless rate in the world, the HIGHEST poverty line in the world, the BEST healthcare system in the world, . In short, looking after the NEEDS of the many rather than the WANTS of an elite few!

Sorry Yogi, but I cannot agree with "the best healthcare system in the world"...

For the rest... stats? Because I don't really believe what you are saying, no offence tho...

YOU mis-understand me, my dear! I am saying that Canada should focus on developing, and improving essential services rather than playing fucking silly games at the cost of billions of dollars!

    Ok :P
I can agree with that... But you will never get the socialized system in Canada, which makes sure the homeless all have shelter, the sick all are treated as they should, and the poor can buy clothes... That means increase taxes (and spend more than the lousy $1500 of your tax-money on a couple of people who curl...) and no one wants to pay taxes :)
