PARIS - France's parliament is likely to call in a resolution for a ban on Muslim face veils in public but take longer to turn that policy into law, deputies said on Thursday.

Personally I think if you feel the need to wear something that makes into someone of inferior status you need mental help.

A government ban on this nonesense is an excellent as idea as it would remind people thatthey are in France.

France has laws against waering crosses and star of Davids. Wearing these veils is way over the line.

What ever happened to freedom and liberty?

This world would be a better place if more effort was made to fix the shit that is worth fixing instead of wasting time money and effort to subdue ones religous choices!!!

France has become a pretty secular country.

Freedom and liberty has limits in Europe.

A lot of other people in Europe will be watching this.

Banning the burka is idiotic. The state getting involved in what people can wear just won't work. But, put in stiff laws that you can't cover your face when identification is required, or in security situations (banks, airports, etc). No exemptions.

France has laws prohibiting indentured servitude, too. Do you wish to argue that you should be free to be a slave if you want to be?

I would like to ban baseball and gimme caps (unless you're actually playing baseball), cowboy boots (unless you're actually riding a horse), and wife beaters (unless you're actually... oh, forget it). Oh, and skanky clothes on fat women (unless sufficient beer has been consumed).

Tell me Bart how choosing to wear a burka/ veil is any business of the country?

Because wearing one does not constitute slavery, I dont know about you but I have travelled extensively throughout the middle east and all of the bullsit we as westerners seem to cling to is really much ado about nothing. Dont get me wrong there are extremes but you can say that about anyone.

In schools, yes, it includes the hijab as well.

French law prohibits any state funded school
from promoting or favoring any religion.

It came in 2004, couple kids expelled from school as well.

Lots of screaming and protests, but the law stuck,
the politicians held firm, said " This is France, it's a secular country "

this is so completely ridiculous and brings fear to mind when i think of multiculturalism. france's real problem is its vast numbers of unassimilated immigrants. period. and they seem to think taht some top-down banning of the veil, using government force is the answer. all this does is further deteriorate the right of the individual. when the headscarf was banned in schools, so too were crucifixes and star of david, in a country which has been catholic in its entire history. by using the fear of alien cultures the state siezes more and more and more power. the real problem is immigration. but our current state of affairs in western civilization, namely being a bunch of spineless cowards, unwilling to say the truth lest it stray from politically correct ideology. they are trying to treat the symptoms, not the cause.

Odd thing coming from a citizen of a country espousing freedom of religion.
