David Hutchison, who played Santa at Parkway Mall on Ellesmere Rd., says he was told Wednesday by mall officials that he was canned for giving out candy canes to shoppers who didn't pay to take a photo with him.

    .... Hutchison, , who started the contract job on Nov. 28 said yesterday in his Scarborough home.


    Now, he's out $1,500 right before the holidays with a baby on the way

    Some story, it was interesting to read. The Mall got worked up because he walked around and handed out candy canes. Only I believe some bosses are like that.

    My initial thought is that the bosses were likely a bit old school and didn't treat this guy with the kind of respect that he is probably used to getting.

    I still think this is the case, but I also think that he instigated some of it.

    it almost sounds like a junior manager tried to ration a shortage of 3 cent candy instead of going out and buying some more. A bad decision on her part.

    sounds like your typical mindless corporation.

    "We have to control shrink! Order just enough Candy Canes to ensure that he won't run out but we won't have any left. What he's giving them out!! We can't possibly order more that would be cost overrun."
