The corrida, or bullfight, has long been a part of Spanish life. But this week the Catalan parliament in Barcelona will consider a proposal to ban it, becoming the first region in of Spain to do so.
They could always just ban the killing in the ring portion. In Portugal the bull isn't killed in the ring. Oxen are let into the arena and two herdsman on foot herd the bull along them back to its pen. The bull is usually killed, away from the audience's sight, by a professional butcher. Some bulls, after an exceptional performance, are restored to health and released to pasture for breeding.
