The store closure, which followed one of the first unionizations of Wal-Mart employees in North America, drew continent-wide attention and the high-stakes appeal has been closely watched by labour and business.

...and the desire of cheap products buy the public keep this giant in business..

The Gov't is suppose to protect us, but with NAFTA and Globalization our country is being handed over to the few elite of the world.

They sell the same crap at Canadian Tire and the Bay and nobody cries about that. They're not union either.

As unfortunate a decision as this is, to be fair to the Justices, they did follow legal precedent, so they can't really be faulted.

proof that Walmart doesn't know how to make enough profit unless they take it out of the pockets of their employees.

Actually the union would be taking the money out of their pockets. It's called dues.

I think there is a place for unions but if a company doesn't want to play with them it's up to them.
Wal Mart isn't a social service, it's there to make a profit.
Put up a barrier to them making the margin they want and they will go elsewhere.

This was a no-brainer court decision.

Ever seen Wal-Mart sales and profit numbers?

    Guess not.

Employees at Wal-Mart are entitled to nothing but a safe environment to work and a paycheck.

Want more money and more security? Stay in school and don't work at Wal-Mart.

    The end.

    My favourite Wal-mart story...

Assistant manager works his balls off for the company. He's working, like, 75-90 hours a week--no O/T though, because he's management. Had to moved his family six times over ten years. Works like 40 hours in three days because they're understaffed. Exhausted he helps a customer carry a big TV to her car. Whammo! The big one hits and he dies right there in the parking lot.

Too bad the missus didn't have life insurance. But that's OK--turns out Wal-mart took out a $300,000 life insurance on him. But they kept it all; the wife and kids didn't get a dime.

They took a policy out on him, worked him to death and then collected the policy.

You almost have to admire that kind of ruthlessness.

Sounds like Harpers plan to balance the budget. Take out life insurance policies on CDN workers then privatize health care. :P

It begs the question. What stopped him from taking out his own life insurance? Isn't it a personal responsiblity to do this? My employer doesn't give me free insurance. I have my own.

You are a cop. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you fully covered for life and disability? 8O

    If not join the OPP.

Who knows? That wasn't the part of the story that interested me. It was more the whole taking out a policy on someone and then working them to death thing.

    Way to go Wal-Mart !
    Don't like ? Don't work there, that's all.

If it was sooo bad, Wal-Mart would not be the #1 employer in the world.
