The Canadian Forces will have a better idea by the end of this year on whether it will build a brand new training centre in the Arctic or use and expand an existing government research facility for its base in the far North.

When I was in the cadets in Thunder Bay we went on an exercise in the middle of winter. It must of been -40 at least and I nearly went down with hypothermia. :( I like the snow and everything that goes with it but there are limits. :D

yeah, I've always said I love the snow, just hate the cold that's associated with it. I'd be happy as all get out if it snowed when it was like 75 degrees. Now THAT would rock

... and nobody is shooting at you and no IEDs.

Between the Arctic and Kandahar, I'd choose the Arctic.

You know I did a SOVOP in 2006 and it wasn't too bad. I would try a posting up there.

I always dug the cold, between the Artic and Afghanistan. Hard to choose but I still wouldn't mind a Artic job. Despite being useless IMO. The Artic is too cold for any kind of warfare or defense. I am not even sure if weapons can operate under those conditions. Certonly vehicles can't. Not unless the CF adopts a military vehicle with a good heating system that also heats the engine and key components.

Putting soldiers in the Artic is nothing but a visual defense thing. Got soldiers up there freezing there nuts off for nothing.

It might be cold but it can be done. It just sucks to do it!

Weapons can operate under those conditions as can "most" vehicles.

The bold I can completely agree with but it is our land and we should demonstrate that we can and will defend it.
