KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Canadian troops arriving at Kandahar Airfield are usually still jet-lagged when first introduced to the deadliest weapon they are likely to face the entire time they're in Afghanistan.

It's too bad we can't come up with the technology to set them of prematurely. Like when the pricks are hiding them.

The technology does exist for remote control ieds but obviously this is no good for the other types.

Setting them off is not always practical or safe.

Its better to recover an IED and exploit it for evidence. If you can find out who is planting them or even better who is teaching others how to make them you can stop it at the source. It takes longer to train a new bomber than to plant another IED.
