TORONTO -- Poppycock, I say. Our war vets fought for our rights and freedoms. Their friends died. But did they fight for the right to corporate stupidity?

A rep popped by the Scotiabank at Cedarbrae Mall as usual but this time he was told there was no place for his poppy box.

Seems to happen every year. By Monday some bigwig from the bank will have apologized. In the past functionaries at WalMart and Canadian Tire have also refused poppy boxes, only to be reversed by their bosses.

Your right Leew' it happesns, but it shouldn't, and it burns me up.
There should be a law in this country that legions can sell them wherever the hell they want and anyone refusing them should face charges for their stupidity.

Almost as bad as a Bank of America in the US not allowing US flags to be placed on their property during a soldier's funeral procession because "the flags might offend some of their customers." WTF?

Let the vets sell their poppies! Anyone that is offended by that can have a free one-way plane ride to any country that shares their views.

I might suggest that ALL serving and retired military, as well as anyone who supports our troops to transfer/close their scotia accounts immediately, citing scarborough's decision as the reason!
In fact, I will send an email to scotiabank letting them know that I will be making that suggestion 'loud and clear' to any and all! Anyone with me on this???

people should picket institutions that do this. Have a veterann or some other volunteer with a placard stating,'This institution will not support the Poppy campaign for veterans', stand outside for awhile.

Following, is a copy of the email which I just sent to scotiabank. IF i get any response, I'll post it. In the meantime, please go to their website and send them an email as well.

To whom it may concern: And that should be EVERY EMPLOYEE OF SCOTIABANK!

I am thouroughly disgusted by the stance of the management of the Scarbourough branch of your financial institution as regards the refusal of allowing OUR VETERANS,(you know, the BRAVE and SELFLESS men and women who have put their lives on the line to save your sorry asses) to sell poppies from your branch or property. To further voice my disgust, I will be reaching out via the internet as well as printed media, and any other means of reaching as many people whom I can, suggesting and advising ALL of your customers, particularly members, past and present, whom are Military, to transfer/close their accounts and cease doing business with scotiabank.

Way ahead of you Yogi. Tomorrow I'll be closing my Scotia bank account and I will loudly explain WHY I'm closing it. I've already e-mailed their head office and explained my complete disgust at the way this gentleman was treated.

This is such bullshit. AGAIN. Why can't these dickwads graciously honour the men/women that provide them their daily freedoms? Honestly.... I'd love to stick an IED up their asses and THEN see if they're still worried about offending their customers.
