Disney hopes to put Marvel's 5,000 characters to work on its television channels and in video games, theme parks and movies. The agreed takeover is for a mixture of cash and stock, with Disney shares accounting for roughly 40% of the buyout price.

    Four billion dollars.
    That's insane.
    Beyond insane.
But then again there's hundreds of thousands of old plots, you only need $10 an hour hacks to flesh them out into bad movies, and the morons will line up to watch them.
They've already used up every single SNL sketch and video game.....

Most of Marvels characters' are a bunch of watered-down and childishly benign pussies already so I don't see what damage to their credibility is done by Disney taking over the corporate side of things. Besides, Disney owns Miramax which turns out adult and occasionally controversial films so I don't see where a worry that Disney will make everything at Marvel "kiddies-only" would come from.

Besides, aside from appealing to the teenage masturbation fantasy by giving practically all their female characters a pair of 38DDD's, it's not like Marvel was putting out edgy stuff like Crossed, 303, The Boys, or Preacher in the first place. No great loss from what I can see for people who like their comics to be written at a higher IQ level than 89 anyway.

Um one word... Pixar. If anyone can understand how the marriage between Pixar and Disney help revolutionize the animation industry can see how ground breaking this deal is. Deeper pockets means pictures like the upcoming Thor will have the budget that they actually projected for not what Marvel actually has. $150 million dollar movies aren't made on goodwill and Marvel may have made a pace they had no means to realistically keep so this deal may have been a required lifeline. In the end Disney is a business and is in it to make money so I wouldn't be surprised if some cuts are in order to keep Marvel afloat but better that then to see the whole thing flop.

We are Disney. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.

Cars 2 comes out in 2010. So I am happy. So is my son.
