They are joking right? I mean Shater is a cool guy and everything but hes a actor not a soldier. Hes got training in acting... well what somebody might call acting. Not soldier or officers training.

yeah, I like Bill and all but that's just a bit much. Honourary degrees are pointless enough, why make a mockery of the Navy.

That would be like the queen granting a Knighthood to Mick Jagger or something.

There are a tonne of Honourary Colonels in the army and air force, even Ron McLean is one, so why not William Shatner? Not that I am a fan of him, but seriously why not?

Reagan was an actor and became Commander in Chief of the whole US military. Michaelle Jean is a journalist and also commander in chief. Why not an grade for Shatner ?

I don't think it's good enough. I think they should name a ship after him, or something. We don't have a space shuttle.
