CALGARY - Changes that came into effect Wednesday could mean more 14-year-old scooter drivers on Alberta streets, a move that some applaud as a way to teach young riders responsibility and others insist is a safety hazard.
It's been like that in Qubec for a few years now. From my experience, I haven't seen much of a problem here (besides the awful noise they make) and that surprises me a bit. I work right beside a senior high school too, drive by another one and there are a lot of scooters at both places.
There's already a bunch of them around here. This isn't going to make much of a difference at all for us small town dwellers. A Class 7 is still going to be required and that requires passing the written test.
There are a crapload of those little electric scooters here and I don't think they have any regulation on them. I remember our local lobbyists bitching that because those 50cc scooters don't require a motorcycle licence, there would be bloody carnage on the streets. None of that has happened.
I thought the 14 year old clause was always an Alberta law. It allows the farm boys to travel the dirt roads during irrigation season, and some kids in small towns get to benefit from it by riding around scooters like a bicycle.
please take this to the bank,
from one who has seen it in 2 other countries................
THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA AND YOU ARE NOT GOING TO ENJOY IT.
Sorry...

I've never seen a problem with it.
