We have fire bans all over the place here. I would hazard a guess and say only 50% or less of the usual long weekend warriors came through town this year.

A fire ban seems to be a good solution to stop all the crap from happening.

They use Fire bans just to keep people out of the back country. I remember the September before the G8 summit in 02. They closed most of the north of KCountry as a test to see if they could keep every body out on the Labor Day weekend. They said it was to dry, it rained .8 mm on the Tuesday and they reopened it on Wednesday.

That sure didnt work in the castle country,we had extreme fire hazard and they started burning couches and then a car, there was way too many of them for the fish and game to do anything but watch.

They mostly focus on K country though now,too many campers and not enough cops to go around.

That sounds a awful lot like the area they're talking about in the story, Cogburn Beach, up the east side of Harrison Lake, 20 K's up from Sasquatch park. We've been up there after the long weekend.....burned out fridges, coolers, couches, cars and enough garbage to fill at least 2 trucks....

1 dead, 2 stabbed in campground fight at Cultus Lake
Police say altercation was between 2 groups of men

Campers at the Sunnyside Campground in Cultus Lake, B.C., on Sunday found themselves amid a police investigation into the death of a young man. (CBC)
A 19-year-old man died and two others were stabbed in a fight between two groups of men that broke out at a family campground in Cultus Lake, B.C., on Saturday night.

The Richmond man died upon arrival at hospital, while the two other men's injuries are not life-threatening, RCMP said Sunday.

Chilliwack RCMP were called to the Sunnyside Campground at Cultus Lake about 100 kilometres east of Vancouver at 11:10 p.m. due to a disturbance involving two groups.

Forensic investigators comb the crime scene on Sunday where three people were stabbed during an altercation late Saturday night. (CBC)
When officers arrived at the scene, they found three men with stab wounds, Cpl. Dale Carr said, while the assailants had fled on foot.

"One of those victims is a park employee. He received a non-life-threatening injury. He was attempting to intervene in the altercation when he was hurt," Carr said.

"The second victim is a 20-year-old male. He is in serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He's been taken to a Metro Vancouver hospital."

A police canine unit was deployed and later tracked three suspects. The three men were in police custody in Chilliwack on Sunday with charges pending, Carr said.

Some witnesses said the altercation might have been the result of a fight over a woman.

Carr said the RCMP do not know whether all of the parties were acquainted with each other or what the motivation behind the stabbing was.

Police are not releasing the name of the deceased man until next of kin can be notified.

Yeah, that story made the rounds here last year, the big place to go years ago was Chilliwack Lake provincial park. The RCMP stopped me in one of their roadblocks on the way down there during grad weekend...."have a alcohol with you sir"????......and I was in my late 30's....of course I got booze.... 8O

Seems like its gotten out of hand the last ten years, families dont even go camping anymore, too many hooligans who should be made to go back the next weekend and clean up their mess.
Every single Alberta forestry campground has this problem every may long weekend, looks like its bad in BC too.

Is that just the May long weekend, or during the summer too?

May long weekend is the worst , Canada Day if it makes a weekend and Heritage day can be just as bad. If you like to camp in Alberta just stay home on the long weekends it's not worth the hassle.

Ya,it's a shame, they come from Calgary and Lethbridge and allmost allways you see them bring couches, which they burn later.

It's just like a big riot in the bush now.

My sister and her group that go quadding came close to losing their camping spot and trail access because of the grad parties last year. They were the people that cleaned up 3 party spots. This year their going to invite themselves into the parties for a few minutes and pass out garbage bags. While their doing that, others are going to be writing down license plate numbers. If the camping area doesn't get cleaned up, then their going to report the numbers.

They could find themselves in a world of trouble if a bunch of drunken yahoo's figure out what their actually doing.

But she said they'd do it during the day and more than likely Sunday morning.
