The Air Force is warning it won't have any choice but to shutdown the Snowbirds aerobatic team if the government follows through with a five per cent cut to its budget.
My neighbour growing up was Bryan Alston's mother. Bryan was killed in the late 60s in the Air Force's precision flying team that became the Snow Birds later on. She would be sad to hear this news.
The biggest issue is the planes they are using, they have passed the point of being safe. I would love to keep a team like this in place but we need other new equipment first.

The story here isn't that the Snowbirds might be cut, but that we are cutting defence spending.
I wondr if the righties here will criticize the Conservatives for cutting defence spending the same way they bash the Libs for doing the exact same thing in the 90s...my guess is probably not.

The snowbirds are not unsafe whatsoever. Thanks to lots of surplus airframse, they will be good for a number of years still.
However, this is something that can't be allowed to happen. The Snowbirds are a symbol of not just the air force, but the CF as a whole. They need to be kept no matter what. Ground the challenger fleet first before the snowbirds, Harper can walk for all I care.
If they go through with this, the lose all rights to say they are better then the Libs when it comes to defence.
"uwish" said I have already notified the party in writing that until the gun registry is scraped (as per their policy) I will be withholding any further funds.
By your act, you abandon your support for abolishing the registry.
No I don't, the only way anything moves is with money. There is a grass roots movement among conservatives to make their voice heard within the political party. In order to do it, we stop donating money to emphasize the point that this party WILL go in the direction WE decided.
It is quite simple, and from the looks of things the Liberals found out the hard way how that works.
I'd see them go before any combat squadron.
The Snowbirds are not a core military capability.

For sure, no argument there. It's just too bad that the budget may not be able to sustain them.

Not sure what else I could do besides writing a 'stern' letter of disapproval.
Clubbing seals and axing snowbirds...no wonder Canada is getting such a bad reputation...
That wasn't bad.
