Canadian politicians and scientists signed a declaration yesterday defending the Canadian seal hunt, as former Beatle Paul McCartney called on the European Parliament to adopt a ban on the seal trade.

That's actually kinda a bullshite article.

Especially the food chain part, they kill them for the pelts, not the meat.

    Lobby groups.

There's a difference between who hunts them and how.
You cant compare the Innuit hunting for seals with the easterners clubbing seals for pelts.

    You just cant. :|

Every bit of this seal will be utilized for survival, none of it will be sold on the market.

Yeah, it's kind of disingenuous to make up all these excuses that aren't really relevant.

That being said, seal fur is 100% natural, organic, water-resistant and insulating... as long as the hunts are as humane as possible it would seem like the ultimate "green" commodity, when the alternatives are almost always petroleum-based synthetics.

When Paul Mc Cartney speaks,Europeans listen.
They remember the videos of him crawling up to a baby seal which appeared to be crying which they all do as their tear ducts run 24/7.

I would like to see a spoof video of that one and some crazy sealer ripping his x wifes wooden leg off and clubbing a seal with it.

Senator Jean Lapointe, an artist, wrote a song for the seal hunters. He will distribute it in Europe to explain what is seal hunt.

I've said it before and I will say it again, the only reason people are getting so upset over this and how this is getting so popular is because not every country has a seal population and has the ability to hunt them (or they would) I believe only Canada, Russia, Greenland maybe has seal populations. There is no difference between the Canadian Seal Hunt for fur profits than the Euro Fur hunts on other animals for fur profits. The only reason this gets PR is because of the image of the hunt. Seals get hunted on white sheets of ice so the blood is very noticable.

Seals are some of the cutest animals on earth which earns them more sympathy and PR. You get a couple of videos of idiotic hunters who can't kill them properly and the world is pointing fingers at our country and calling us all barbarians. While at the same time being a hypocrite because they do the exact same thing with other animals.

They want to start a ban on seal products than we should start a pointless ban on Euro Furs. Only fair right? Seals are not top of the food chain where they live. Baby seals die of starvation, get abandoned by there mother and get killed by other animals. The seals that get hunted have a large percent chance of dieing anyways. Yet despite there lack of strength on the food chain and being hunted. There numbers keep growing. Infact if they were proven to be killed humanly which I believe they are. The seal hunt is a lot more humane than other hunts across the globe. People who kill animals who probally would have lived because they don't live in such a hostile envirement. Killing them for the same reasons or just for fun.

Chinese fishers hunt sharks in third world countries who have basicly lack of sea laws and need the money let these fishers hunt sharks, gut them ONLY for there fins and they just toss them back in the ocean. These fins are used to make a soup that use to be made for chinese royals called Shark Fin Soup. Now that are certon shark species are endangered. Yet nobody is putting a effort or much attention towards them. Why? Because they aren't as cute as seals.

    It's really pathetic IMO.
