OTTAWA - The Australian governor general's recent musings about an end to the monarchy have cheered Canadian republicans, who would like to jump-start a debate in thus country about getting rid of the Queen.
Tradition and Heritage do NOT equal outdated and irrelevant
Since when does tradition and heritage mean clinging to a foreign monarchs (key word there, foreign) who do little to nothing for the country, embody anti-democratic ideals, and inherit a position of dominance without ever actually earning it? I mean really, what have monarchs really done for Canada?

I think only Queen Elizabeth II deserves some respect, considering her actions when she signed off on us becoming fully independent. That being said, that's the only real worthy example. Maybe Victoria as well, but meh
I swore an oath to the Queen when I joined the CF, but I would rather have sworn an oath to Canada and ONLY Canada. Canada is my home and always will be, I feel no connection with England, The Commonwealth, or the Queen.

What does the oath say ? That you must protect the Queen or something like that ?
why keep the queen? I mean real REASONS , not emotional nuances WHAT Does the queen do for us? NOTHING I SAY DUMP HER WRINKLY BUT the monarchy has NO place in modern society.
as I've said before, "god save the Queen"!. If the oath is similar to the one I had to swear when I became a peace officer it would go like this,
"I, _____, swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her heirs and successors according to law, in the office of Special Constable for the City of ...."
In many Commonwealth realms all that is required is an oath to the monarch, and not the constitution or state. There have been moves in Canada and Australia to make the oath of allegiance sworn by new citizens refer to the country rather than the monarch. However, the oaths sworn by judges, Members of Parliament, etc., have not been changed.
"stokes" said I cant even remember now, I swore the oath in '93, but basically you proclaim your loyalty to queen and country.
I, , do Solemnly swear (affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors according to law, forever. So help me God.
The "Queen of Canada" is different than the "Queen of England" even though they are the same physical person.
That's one concept the anti-Monarchists have a hard time grasping. She is not a 'foreign' Queen.
Long Live the Queen! B-)
Tradition and Heritage do NOT equal outdated and irrelevant
it's time to shed the last trappings of colonialism and have a truly Canadian government with no role for the British Crown.
YOu're just jealous because you'll never get to be Queen.
True, then I have been called 'a real prince' more than once!
Tradition and Heritage do NOT equal outdated and irrelevant
Leave her on the 20 then, like hell will I ever pledge my loyalty to a monarch
Boo!
Long Live the Queen! B-)
