Prime Minister Stephen is trying to buy time and stave off a possible defeat by opposition parties by announcing the government will delay any confidence votes on the controversial economic update for one week.
"westmanguy" said You support giving incredible power to the separatists who want to destroy this country? You support a government in bed with the Bloc Quebecois?
Like Mulroney did?
Like Harper would if they'd let him?
Harper had his head up his ass when he created this idiocy, and he's paid the price by having to step back and think about what he did. It was an incredably stupidly partisan thing to do, and it may now cost him the government.
I don't think the alternative is much more appealing at the moment, but teaching the freaks running the Conservative party a lesson in how to eat humble pie might be worth the risk.
Woudl b awhile since this last happened. I say let it happen, and put Iggy incharge overall. I'm not eductaed enoguh to say who shoudl be minister of finance, but Martin did a hell of a god job last time.
Avoiding the inevitable... and lets face it.. Quebec is part of Canada and the bloc have every much right in the house as anyone... they have the interest of Quebec as a priority but they have and will work in the interest of democracy... unlike the autocrat king and the rotten torys.
Gee. Lily.. where did you go? You sounded so sure of youreself and opinionated on the subject but now when the floor is open and you have a chance to tell us, you run away. Could it be that you don't know about this and that you're just playing passive agressive Liberal sniper again?
The opposition should vote this government down at their next opportunity. Harper cannot be allowed another chance to screw with the system.
They should point out that Trudeau resigned after Clark won in '79, but led the Liberals back to a majority in '80, so Dion's still got a claim to leadership within precedent even though he resigned.
They should point out that even though the Conservatives won a lot of seats, collectively the Liberals and NDP smashed them in the popular vote, so those two parties speak for more people than do the Conservatives.
They should point out that it was Harper's own proposed policies that brought the Government to the brink just a month and a half after the election, and so it would be Harper who would be plunging the country into another election so soon, not the opposition, and that the opposition, by forming a coalition, would be saving the country the chore of another election.
The should point these things out and more and politically eviscerate Harper so that his power lust and brinkmanship can no longer taint our Government.
Don't forget to mention that the NDP, who are demanding the senior finance minister post will undoubtably bring back the crippling corporate taxes, exactly when companies are weakest and at risk of failing. Such am ideological move could cause many of them to go under for good leaving many Canadians out of work.
They should point out that even though the Conservatives won a lot of seats, collectively the Liberals and NDP smashed them in the popular vote, so those two parties speak for more people than do the Conservatives.
These means absolutely nothing. You talk as if the Liberals and the NDP are the same party, that their votes can automatically be combined. The fact is that these are three distinct parties and of those three the Conservatives got the most votes. If these two parties truly represent the majority of Canadians they should have joined parties before the election and put it to the voters.

lily, you can't seriously support the NDP holding economic portfolio? Finance Minister Jack Layton? Really?
You support giving incredible power to the separatists who want to destroy this country? You support a government in bed with the Bloc Quebecois?
Talk about whoreing ones self out with what they offered the bloc.
So what is your opinion on this entire situation?

Hope they topple them .. the sooner the better

Sure thing. Put Paul back in during an economic meltdown and an unbalanced budget, oh well there goes the rest of our pension plan.
