Security in Afghanistan has deteriorated to a seven-year low, Canada admitted yesterday, as President Hamid Karzai continued to vent frustration at the slow pace of progress and accidental civilian deaths caused by Western forces.

There's no way Afghanistan will be ready to support itself by 2011. Conclusion: Canada's "mission" there has been a colossal failure.

Conclusion: Canada should not pull out in 2011.

I agree that Canada shouldn't pull out, but we should move to another district and let some of those Europeans sitting on their hands in Kabul step up.

It's been 7 years of complete failure even by the idiotic and often criminal ignorance of those who support this condoned occupation. Anyone thinking that furthering this beyond a 2011, as though continued failure equals success, is someone lost in military lust and aged beliefs in gun glory.

Thankfully only 7% of Canadians think this according to a recent Angus Reid poll. The same poll shows a majority of Canadians want to leave before 2011, 53% believe that.

We have two options in my view. Drastically alter what is being done immediately, or leave immediately.

    They didn't say that.
The do need and deserve to know because they need to make plans for the future though.

Frustrated President condemns foreign forces for failing to defeat Taliban, alienating ordinary Afghans
Afghan President Hamid Karzai warned yesterday that unless Western armies can defeat the Taliban, and provide a clear victory date, then he will be forced to sue for peace with the rebels.

It's election time there and Karzai can not run on a platform that doesn't admonishes us and expect to win, that's why he has to give us flack. don't want us there. The gig is up. Let's leave and come back upon their invite to give the process time to reset but right now our mandate is past stale and we are flogging a dead horse here. We are not doing him any favors and we aren't doing ourselves one either. We decided the terms initialy till they could decide for themselves and now they are we must leave so we can be back so that we have authority to be there. Right now our mandate is crumbling and we are becoming occupiers with as much right to be there as squatters.

The mission will continue after 2011, just not as a battle group.
