It must be the governments fault. It couldn't possibly be some lazy, shiftless doctor trying to cut corners.

This report follows recent revelations that hospital staff in High Prairie have been routinely reusing syringes in patient IV lines. The syringes aren't put directly into patients, but they do enter intravenous lines. When the needle is withdrawn, blood could potentially flow back into the syringe.

So if I'm reading this right, the syringe is used to measure out a drug and inject that into the IV line. Considering the product in the IV line is clean, I can't see the chance of contamination although I'm not sure of the blood flow back issue.

A cynical observer would comment on the fact that they hand out free new needles to drug addicts yet the folks in the hospitals feel they need to save them?
