WINNIPEG -- For some the cold can be uncomfortable, but for those suffering from cold-induced urticaria -- an allergy to the cold -- it has the potential to turn deadly.

Emma's mother hopes people will become better informed about the condition and come to understand that moving from Winnipeg to a warmer climate isn't a solution.

Can't hurt. Winnipeg is pretty much winter's a^^hole.

Sounds like the Dutch Antilles might be just right for her...

Well it won't hurt she can't argue that one.

Parts of BC may be more suitable than "Winterpeg" for sure.

They can't change the weather for this poor kid.

Incredible! I have had a, by comparison, 'mild' form of cold-induced uticaria since I was 9 years old. Never knew that it had a name and never met anyone else with it. I'll definitely 'drop them a line'. Thanks for posting this WDH. It has dissipated somewhat over the years, but still causes discomfort, and embarrassment at times. The symptoms don't show up much until I start to warm up. Then 'splotchy orange, blue lips, purple veining, large hives and general swelling and puffyness. It's not painful, but is itchy as hell for several hours. A good excuse to take a book and relax in a hot tub of water during the middle of the day for a while. Actually, I don't think the hot baths help at all, but that was what the Drs. came up with so it's a great excuse to 'do nothing' when I really should be 'doing something'!
